MOScout Daily Update: New Ads in Senate 15 and 17 - More $$$ in A2, A3 - Confident Eigel - Where Trump Tax Leaker Went to High School and more…
Senate 15 Bits
Updates from the hottest state senate race…
· The pro-Joe Pereles political action committee, Fearless PAC, has new ad out, once again hitting David Gregory on his support for the abortion ban. See it here. Obsessed. It means preoccupied to a troubling extent and David Gregory, candidate for state senate in St Louis County, is obsessed with outlawing abortion. Gregory helped write the most restrictive abortion ban in the country, banning abortion even in cases of rape and incest. He supports policies that shut down IVF centers…
· In the Jewish Light, one reader questions Pereles involvement in J Street. I was quite surprised when told that Mr. Pereles is also actively engaged in the St. Louis chapter of J Street… For many of us with a strong commitment to the survival of Israel, J Street’s policies – such as supporting the Iran nuclear deal – are, at best, naïve, and at worst, downright dangerous…
· And one (Republican) MOScout reader in the Senate 15 tells me that Pereles is dominating the mailboxes: The Gregory endorsements/anti-crime messages are great and could move votes in the suburban district. However, I am not sure how he plans on disseminating this information. Pereles has been hitting my mailbox almost daily for over a week – getting his message out and inoculating himself against potential attacks - without a single Gregory mailer in that time.
Team Eigel Confident
I’m told that Team Eigel is confident they can win the St. Charles County Executive race – if he chooses to run.
· In 2020, before he built a loyal following, the anti-Eigel crowd spent $500,000 only to lose by 60%.
· In August, Kehoe spent millions in the St Louis market and still lost by double digits to Eigel in St Charles.
Eigel hasn’t made a decision about 2026. Many rumors about Bill these days—believe only the ones that say he is undecided.
Money Watch
In the large contributions below…
· Nearly $2 million more into the A3 (pro-choice) campaign, including another $500,000 from Mike Bloomberg.
· DraftKings tossed in a fresh $4.6 million into the sports betting campaign, even as MOIndy reports that the opposition campaign is cancelling a good chunk of their ad buy.
Senate 17: Nurrenbern Rebuts Nolte Attacks
In her latest commercial, Rep. Maggie Nurrenbern attempts to rebut the attacks she’s facing from Jerry Nolte. See the ad here.
Teach long enough and you’ll hear some tall tales. It’s easy to tell the difference between fact and fiction. Jerry Nolte’s fictional attacks can’t hide his long record of criminalizing abortion, limiting affordable health care, and cutting funding for our schools….
PD on “Inmate No. 96530-510”
Post-Dispatch has a profile on the man who leaked Donald Trump’s tax returns to the New York Times, and his St. Louis upbringing, particularly – in true St. Louis fashion – his high school. Read it here.
· Charles E. Littlejohn wasn’t alive when Crossroads College Preparatory launched in 1974. Yet he embodies the founding spirit of the small private school in the DeBaliviere Place neighborhood.
· “I am really impressed with what he did,” said Arthur Lieber, 77, who co-founded Crossroads. “Whether you agree or disagree, he was in a very difficult position. He seemed to do something that was very courageous.”
A7 Bits
Amendment 7 before voters next month asks the question: Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to: Make the Constitution consistent with state law by only allowing citizens of the United States to vote; Prohibit the ranking of candidates by limiting voters to a single vote per candidate or issue; and Require the plurality winner of a political party primary to be the single candidate at a general election?
· It’s kind of late in the game, but last week a campaign committee was formed to support it. See the filing for Americans for Citizen Voting here.
· And The League of Women Voters of Missouri came out urging a “No vote on Amendment 7. The League believes local communities should be able to try alternative voting systems. It's already illegal for non-citizens to vote.”
