MOScout Daily Update: New Anti-Pereles Ad - O’Laughlin on Kehoe’s Crime Push - Luekty Gives Big to MSCC - Dems Fight Ahead of Election Day and more…
First in MOScout: Latest Anti-Pereles Ad
The latest pro-David Gregory ad in Senate 15 once again hits Pereles on law-and-order issues, citing Joe Pereles’ backing of Congresswoman Cori Bush. The ad is produced by the Missouri Senate Campaign Committee, the Republican senators’ vehicle to support their candidates across the state. Why is Joe Pereles lying about David Gregory? He doesn’t want us talking about how he made St. Louis more dangerous. Pereles funded Cori Bush’s push to defund the police and legalize drugs. He supported in-state tuition and amnesty for illegal immigrants. Joe Pereles is a dangerous liar.
Senate 17: MSCC Hits Nurrenbern on Taxes
Meanwhile, over in Senate17, where Republican Jerry Nolte and Democratic Rep. Maggie Nurrenbern are fighting to replace Lauren Arthur, MSCC is highlighting tax increases.
And
Sen. Caleb Rowden, as head of the Republican Senate Caucus, is the treasurer of MSCC. His name is on those attacks. He, of course, supported the increased gas tax, as well as the Wayfair internet sales tax. As did the Missouri Chamber. Rumors are that Rowden is in the mix of folks applying to head up the Chamber.
Tony PAC Sends $100K To MSCC
Tony PAC, the political action committee which supports Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer, sent $100,000 to the Missouri Senate Campaign Committee as it tries to make its closing arguments in these tight races.
· Luetkemeyer is running to be the Senate Floor Leader. The contribution shows his commitment to the caucus.
O’Laughlin on Kehoe Crime Agenda
Senate leader Cindy O’Laughlin writes on Facebook that she expects public safety to be at the top of Mike Kehoe’s agenda: In a conversation with Mike Kehoe he mentioned Nashville and how they have beefed up law enforcement, implemented pay to attract officers in and are keeping streets safe for their citizens. One of his top priorities is public safety and backing law enforcement. You will be hearing about this and seeing changes I am thinking. And we will support him 100%.
Speaking of crime…
Dem Spat Fuels Assault Charge
Post-Dispatch reports on a kerfuffle between Rep. Michael Burton and St. Louis County Democratic Central Committee Chair Jonathan Boesch. Read it here.
“He physically assaulted me. I was able to get away from him. He then physically assaulted me again,” Burton said, not elaborating on the nature of the alleged assault. Sgt. Tracy Panus, spokesperson for the St. Louis County Police Department, confirmed officers responded to an incident Oct. 14 at 35 Grasso Plaza, the address of the party’s South County office. She confirmed police were investigating and that Burton had pressed assault charges against Boesch.
· One Dem calls this “all kinds of silly.” It’s the perfect example of the Dems’ lack of message discipline to produce a Dem vs Dem headline two weeks before Election Day.
Robbins Opens New Law Firm
Press release: Today, attorneys Alec Rosenblum and Tom Robbins announced the formation of Rosenblum Robbins. Based in St. Louis, the law firm focuses on providing expert legal counsel in criminal defense, business law, regulatory compliance, and highly regulated industry consulting.
"Rosenblum Robbins is designed to be a firm that defends and advises, but also helps clients navigate ever-changing highly regulated industries such as cannabis and gaming," said Tom Robbins, Partner at Rosenblum Robbins. "We look forward to continuing our work and advocacy on behalf of our clients, now stronger together as a partnership."
· Robbins and Rosenblum are part of Strategic Capitol Consulting, the lobbying firm founded by former Speaker Steven Tilley. SCC has grown into one of the most successful firms in Jefferson City. They represent a lot of companies in the recreational marijuana business as well as Torch Electronics which runs the “grey games,” both industries which face legal scrutiny from time to time.
Blunt Sees Long Election Night
Andy Blunt, previewing the coming election, predicts a long night for sure, but probably a long couple of weeks. Read the full note here.
· It is quite possible that unless the margins are larger than anticipated, we will not know the outcome of the presidential election or certainly the US House majority on election night…
· Close elections will bring much scrutiny, and outcomes of several key races in such a situation may not occur until shortly before the state election certification deadline, which in some instances means the middle of December.
· There is a strong likelihood that we will see US Senate results on election night…
· [T]he outcome of the presidential election could take a week to sort out and if only a few votes in competitive districts is separating the candidates… Thus, 2024 could be reminiscent of the 2000 election in Florida which consumed 36 days to finally determine that George W. Bush had won the state and thereby the election.
