MOScout Daily Update: Senate Functions! - Hawley Wagner Clash - Kehoe Killing This Quarter and more...

Quick Friday update…

Senate Passes Some Stuff!

It was a fairly normal week in the Senate, ending with a normal “third read Thursday.”  Yesterday the Senate passed eight bills.  They weren’t the biggest lifts, highest priorities or most transformative pieces of legislation.  Still, it felt like a minor victory to have bills sent over to the House.

Hawley Contra Wagner

Senator Josh Hawley attacked Congresswoman Ann Wagner on Twitter as he was angered by her reaction to the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA).

·       Hawley tweeted: “Shameful for Ann Wagner to turn her back on her constituents - after doing nothing on this issue for years. St. Louis deserves better than this… RECA passes the Senate with a massive bipartisan vote - and Ann Wagner immediately attacks it? Whose side is she on?  Not Missouri’s”

·       And then replying to a picture of her with Volodymr Zelensky: Now do Missouri

What It Means

One GOP pol thinks this is a sign of the times… Senator Hawley is coming into his own as the senior US Senator and as the most popular Republican elected official in Missouri.  I think this also represents a changing of the guard. People like Hawley and [Eric] Burlison are the future of the MO Republican Party and establishment republicans like Ann Wagner and Roy Blunt are the past.

And…

This dynamic is also playing out in 3-CD race as former Sen. Bob Onder represents the “new guard,” while former Sen. Kurt Schaefer will like be the favorite of the “old school” GOP.

Governor’s Race: Money Watch

We’re about three weeks away from the end of the latest fundraising quarter.  If you’ve been scanning the large contributions, you probably already have a sense that the gubernatorial money race continues to see Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe pull in the most money.  Here’s the large contribution totals we’ve seen for each Gubby PAC so far this quarter.

·       Jay Ashcroft’s Committee for Liberty: $30,000

·       Bill Eigel’s BILL PAC: $10,000

·       Mike Kehoe’s American Dream PAC: $851,295

eMailbag on Polling “Liberal Attorneys”

This is dumb. Add "liberal" before any word and it's going to poll like that. "Are you more likely to vote for someone who has taken tens of thousands from LIBERAL veterans?" Bet it's basically the same result

eMailbag from Haley

From Rep. Willard Haley: I would just like to clarify the statement about my ownership of land adjacent to the RIT State Park. I would like to declare I will not benefit in any way from the passage of HR 1554, because I already have an excellent fence separating my land from the Rock Island Trail State Park.

New Filings

Scott A. Miller (Republican) filed to run in House 69.  This is where Rep. Adam Schnelting is vacating to run for state senate.

$5K+ Contributions

American Dream PAC (pro-Kehoe) - $25,000 from CFM Insurance Inc.

American Dream PAC - $10,000 from James Siminoff (Palisades, CA).

Majority Forward (Sen Democrats PAC) - $50,000 from Missouri and Kansas Laborer's PAC.
