MOScout Daily Update: Plocher Buys TV - Onder Touts Poll - Eigel Vows No Payback - Gregory Adds $$$ - Reid Passes…

Reid Passes

I was sad to hear yesterday that Mike Reid passed away.  He was a calm and cheerful presence in the building – unfailingly kind and courteous.

Before lobbying, Reid worked at the Missouri Ethics Commission where he made a huge contribution.  In the words of another lobbyist: “His impact on how we lobby and the state of politics in Missouri was enormous. He literally wrote the rules we work by. Not to mention he was an incredible person and a great mentor.”

I will pass along information about his services when I hear of it.

Remington Memo on 3-CD

Team Onder is circulating a polling memo from Remington Research which shows that his lead has grown in the 3-CD Republican primary since he was endorsed by Donald Trump.  And they think the lead will expand as they tout the endorsement.  See the memo here.

Voters were asked, based only what they know, which candidate is supported by President Trump. President Trump’s endorsement was recent, but 45% of likely voters know that Bob Onder was endorsed. Onder’s overall ballot share has potential for sizable increase as more voters become aware of the President’s endorsement. Amongst those that are correctly aware of the President’s endorsement, Onder leads 59% to 14%. This stat shows the power of the President’s support at this stage of the campaign. As voter awareness of the President’s support increases, so will Onder’s lead.

Senate 15: Gregory Adds Cash

For the past year it’s felt like the Senate 15 Republican primary has been stuck in a tight 3-way race with no one able to break out and establish themselves as the front-runner.  Yesterday’s move by David Gregory appears to be an effort to do just that.  He wrote a check for $100,000 to his campaign account.

Meanwhile

Gregory’s opponent Mark Harder is rolling out his endorsement list today…

The Mark Harder Campaign is proud to announce the endorsements of several esteemed leaders and organizations, solidifying Harder’s reputation as the candidate of choice for the Missouri State Senate in District 15…

Team Burger says that their fundraising has been hot in recent weeks.  Since their last filing, they calculate that the Rep. Jamie Burger’s campaign committee has raised over $50,000 and the allied Bootheel Values PAC over $100,000.

Plocher Places TV Ads

So far, among the slew of political ads blanketing the airwaves there haven’t been any from secretary of state candidates. That’s about to change.  Speaker Dean Plocher has made his first buy.

·       It looks like his candidate committee, not his PAC, is behind the buy.

·       And they’re purchasing for the final week before the election.

Eigel Promises Statesmanship

Bill Eigel’s camp is sending word that while folks may be lining up with his opponents and taking shots at him, if he wins there will be no vengeance tour, no get-evens from the second floor.

“The challenges our state faces far exceed any thing that’s happened in the past. If Bill wins the Governor’s race, he is excited to work with anyone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and help solve our complicated problems. Don’t be afraid.”

eMailbag on Dems Outraising GOP Sens

Following my blurb a few days ago about how the Democratic Senate candidates are outraising Republicans in battleground districts so far, I received a few punchy bits of feedback pointing fingers…

·       Republican PACs (see Rusty Black’s Great NW PAC) are busy attacking other Republicans in the primary right now spending hundreds of thousands instead of prepping for November.  This is what the Republican lack of leadership looks like.

·       Sen. Caleb Rowden’s PAC started the year with nearly $250,000.  But none of that has gone to Republican candidates.  It now sits with $15,000 COH after lots of expenses toward an aborted statewide campaign.
