MOScout Daily Update: Henderson Hangs a Shingle - Nurrenbern TV Ad - MO’s GOP Tilt - A3 Fundraising Over $16M - Veto $$$ Schedule and more…
Veto Session week…
Veto Fundraisers
I have tried to create a comprehensive list of all the fundraisers this week during Veto Session (29 in total). Find it here.
There are a few additions to the one I posted last week: Andrew Bailey, Sandy Crawford, Freedom Caucus, and maybe one or two more.
· If I have missed anyone, let me know. I will include an updated version tomorrow morning, since the bulk of these occur on Tuesday.
Childcare Subsidy In The Spotlight
The childcare subsidy debacle will probably get more attention this week than any attempts at veto overrides.
· Senate Leader Cindy O’Laughlin last week called for the firing of the director of the Office of Childhood.
· The House has two hearings focused on the issue: Elementary and Secondary Education Committee on Tuesday, and Budget Committee on Wednesday.
· And the State Board of Education meets Tuesday. The issue has been a topic of conversation there in recent months.

Nurrenbern Ad
In Senate 17, Rep. Maggie Nurrenbern unveiled her first TV ad. See it here.
Most families have traditions that bring them together and bind generations. I’m especially proud of my family’s tradition of service. I'm state representative Maggie Nurrenbern. I’m a former teacher and a fourth-generation union member. I come from a long line of first responders. I’m running for state senate to continue the fight to keep our families safe, improve our schools and protect a woman's right to choose. It’s more than a job it's a family tradition.
Pro-Choice Fundraising Juggernaut
Missourians for Constitutional Freedom, the campaign vehicle for the pro-choice initiative petition, has been a fundraising juggernaut.
According to its July filing, it had raised $7.3 million at that time. Since then, in the large contribution filings, we’ve seen another $9 million come in.
· There have surely been smaller donations as well. So that $16.3 million total is likely understating the incredible resources the campaign has corralled.
Remington Weighting
The MOScout/Remington poll over the weekend showed large leads for the Republicans in this November’s statewide contests.
It’s fair to point out that Remington Research weights the statewide sample heavily toward Republicans: +16.
Unfortunately, for Democrats that’s not unreasonable given the state’s seemingly solid Republican status.
· Two years ago, their weighting was GOP +15. In those 2022 statewide contests, Eric Schmitt prevailed over Trudy Valentine by 13 points, and Scott Fitzpatrick won the Auditor’s race against Alan Green by 22 points.
· In the last presidential turnout year, 2020, Donald Trump bests Joe Biden by 15 points, while Mike Parson beat Nicole Galloway by 17 points.
Huge Trucking Verdict
St. Louis Business Journal reports on a huge lawsuit verdict. Read it here.
A jury returned a $462 million verdict against a Indiana-based company that manufactures tractor trailers, holding it responsible for the deaths of two St. Louis men who were decapitated when their car slammed underneath the back of the trailer.
· The St. Louis Circuit Court jury deliberated for about three hours Thursday before reaching its verdict against the Wabash National Corp. and in favor of the plaintiffs, the families of Taron Tailor, 30, and his passenger, Nicholas Perkins, 23. They were killed on a St. Louis highway in 2019. At the time of their deaths, Perkins had a two-year-old daughter and Tailor’s wife was pregnant. “We commend the courage of the families who brought this lawsuit to hold this company accountable for decades of failures to keep the public safe from preventable underride crashes,” said John Simon, founder of The Simon Law Firm PC.
The Simon Law Firm is among the platoon of politically active trial attorney firms which have given generously this election cycle – often to Republican candidates. In 2023 and 2024, they contributed $120,000 to Bill Eigel’s PAC. Though they also hedged a bit, sending $10,000 to Mike Kehoe’s PAC in late June.
eMailbag on A3 Ruling
Easy decision for the political astute [Judge Chris] Limbaugh. With an eye for a bigger better gig down the road, he punted on the decision to the Supremes. Supremes decision will depend if they punt to voters or uphold Limbaugh. Frankly, the Limbaugh decision is unprecedented. Circuit court normally defers to voters saying the decision is not ripe until they act. If they pass, then back to the courts. If they defeat, it’s moot. Limbaugh is a political animal currying favor from the far right and the Governor who appointed him.
