Sample of Folks Saying “Something Else”

·       It's the economy and the environment.

·       The Echo Chamber - republicans are convinced they know better than their voters. They are using Trump as their sole source of news and information. They don’t realize that their ideas have become the vocal minority.

·       Emperor Donald Trump. GOP is totally tied to Trump and whatever insane thing he does as his time in power (potentially) ends.

·       They have nothing left to do. They’ve largely accomplished all of the social issues that brought them to power. They are left with a “limited government” approach at a time people are looking to government to solve problems.

·       There are some within their rank and file that could lead on real issues facing Missourians, however, leadership at every level (house senate executive branch) are either ideologues or in the pocket of certain lobbyists.

·       The collection of failures; gas prices, maps, income tax reform.

·       Gas prices + Trump + unforced errors on Amendment 4, 5 and forthcoming 6.

·       Trump. Turns out electing Homer Simpson for a second term was essentially political suicide for the GOP.

·       Tied: Donald J. Trump / Denny "Slugger" Hoskins

·       Right now? Eric Schmitt.

·       Trying to be too many things is taking a toll. Being loyal to leadership and the narrowing pool of funders means making bad votes to defend at home. Amendment 4 and 5, underfunding k-12, the higher ed fiasco. A session ahead with no money, a potential formula rewrite, scrapping the Missouri plan that will fail again. Then pile on all the national stuff you have to defend that you can’t control like Iran and gas prices, Trump support of data centers. The “wins” have been rare and unpopular and the losses of their own making are piling up.

Who Won the Week?

Yes on Amendment 6 – The pro-A6 campaign has a commanding organizational advantage with $2.7 million raised and TV commercials already running.  The opposition’s response has been sporadic and less visible.

MO Dems – The latest MOScout poll shows the vibes in suburban Missouri: Trump is underwater, and the right track/wrong direction numbers are running against the incumbent party. Not good signs for GOP turnout next month.

MO Ag – The agriculture community won a little relief with Governor Mike Kehoe’s executive order to allow tax-free dyed diesel on state highways and heavier qualifying farm loads.

Nukes – The final State Energy Plan endorsed public financing, a possible Missouri Nuclear Power Authority, conditional pre-operation cost recovery and workforce grants for nuclear expansion.
