MOScout Daily Update: Another CD-6 Polling Memo - What Kalshi Says - Roundup Saved - MO's SNAP Problem and more...

Quick Friday update…

CD-6 Polling Memo: Stigall Leads

A polling memo from Remington Research says that “recent tracking surveys in Missouri's 6th Congressional District show clear momentum shifting toward Chris Stigall. Stigall has secured steady growth over the last couple months by consolidating undecided voters and capitalizing on key endorsements from both Senator Eric Schmitt and Congressman Sam Graves. Despite negative TV ads against Stigall, his image has remained stable.”  See the memo here.

SCOTUS Saves Roundup

Missouri Independent reports on yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling.  Read it here.

State courts cannot find liability for labeling shortcomings in pesticides and related products because such products are covered by federal law, the U.S. Supreme Court said Thursday in a decision backing agricultural giant Monsanto.

·       The justices, in a 7-2 decision, threw out a $1.25 million verdict a Missouri court awarded to a man who said long-term use of the weedkiller Roundup caused him to develop non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer.

What It Means

The last couple of sessions the General Assembly has debated this issue without finding a compromise.  This decision appears to have resolved the issue for good.

·       Missouri Ag groups cheered.

MO SNAP Problem

David Lieb reports penalties coming to states for excessive payment errors in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.  Read it here.

Consider Missouri as an example. It had an error rate of 8.7% last year. Unless it improves next year, the state will have pick up 10% of SNAP benefit costs starting in October 2027. Missouri residents received about $1.5 billion of SNAP benefits in 2024, the latest year for which federal data is available. If that same amount of benefits is paid in the future, Missouri could have to cover $150 million of the costs; that’s a sum greater than the total budgeted for several state prisons.

Follett Charged

Furthermore, the messages sent from the defendant indicated he would meet the 16-year-old female whom he met online and a discussion to pay money to engage in sexual conduct with the person he believed was under the age of 17. The defendant went to the door at a predetermined location to meet the minor.
