Class-Action Lawsuit Filed Against Hoskins
A class-action lawsuit was filed Friday asking for damages against Secretary of State Denny Hoskins for failing to fulfill his duty as it related to the People Not Politicians initiative petition. The suit asks for $500 damages for each Missourian who signed the petition. That comes out to approximately $80 million (162,000 signers x $500).
This action is a statutory tort brought on behalf of the named plaintiffs and all other similarly-situated Missouri registered voters under the authority of Section 28.200, RSMo. Section 28.200 states: If the secretary of state shall at any time neglect or refuse to perform any of the duties enjoined on him by law, he shall pay to the person aggrieved a sum not less than one hundred dollars nor more than five hundred dollars, to be recovered by civil action.
MAPA Seeks Lobbyist
The Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys has published a Request for Proposals for “Legislative Lobbying and Government Relations Services.” See it here.
Services will support MAPA’s priorities, including interests shared with the Missouri Office of Prosecution Services (MOPS). The selected respondent will take direction from MAPA’s Executive Director and Legislative Committee and participate in weekly committee meetings during the legislative session and other committee meetings as scheduled. The principal focus is the Missouri General Assembly. Executive-branch advocacy and coordination may also be required, including work with the offices of the Missouri Governor and Attorney General, Department of Public Safety, Department of Corrections, Department of Health and Senior Services, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and other relevant offices and agencies.

· This environment is just getting worse for R's and frankly A5, VLTs, A3 and now A6 coupled with $6/gallon diesel, R's racking up debt and $10/lb ground beef are going to be an anchor. It's hard to imagine a worse environment to run as the majority.
Who Won the Week?
Richard von Glahn – After a seesaw week of court cases, People Not Politicians appears to have preserved both its referendum and the 2022 districts for November.
Emanuel Cleaver – It looks like at least one more term for the veteran lawmaker.
Kurt Schaefer – This is no lateral move in the governor’s cabinet. His appointment as commissioner of the Office of Administration means he’ll oversee the state budget, purchasing and much of state government’s machinery.
Jessica Seitz and Emily van Schenkhof – The leaders of the Missouri Network Against Child Abuse and Children’s Trust Fund landed the two advocacy seats on Kehoe’s new child-welfare task force.
Louise Secker – Everyone’s journey to Jeff City is different. But hers is certainly unique: losing a primary by 32 votes, and then getting nominated after federal prosecutors allege that the man who beat you spent weeks plotting to plant cocaine in your car. Welcome to Jeff City, Louise!
