A3 Campaign Names Staff

Press release: Her Health, Her Future, the campaign supporting Amendment 3 on Missouri's November ballot, announces two additions to its senior staff. James B. Lawson will serve as Campaign Manager, and Amanda Sanders will serve as Communications Director. 

·       Lawson most recently served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway. He previously served as Chief of Staff to former Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey. Lawson is currently on a leave of absence from the Attorney General's office to lead the campaign.

According to the campaign, “Jamie Reed's story is now central to the case for Amendment 3.” See the release here.  Reed’s allegations against a Washington University clinic fueled a great deal of backlash against transgender care a few years ago.

Buttigieg for Wellman and State Dems

Former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg will be in St. Louis next week for at least two events, with slightly overlapping times…

Robinett to DOW

Jim Robinette is joining the General Counsel’s office of the Department of War in Washington, DC. A West Point and Notre Dame law graduate, Robinette was a GOP candidate for state house in 2024 in Springfield.

House Races Rundown…

·       House 17 – Rep. Bill Allen’s website has a section called “Promises Kept!”  You asked for results; I delivered. Far too many politicians make promises they can't keep. I believe you deserve better. You're my boss, so I listen and deliver…  Among Allen’s results are many that highlight his moderate positions: “Common sense and collaboration – You asked me to work across the aisle when it serves our district.”  And, “Union support…  Right-to-work is dead, and I'll keep it that way.”  “When you said ‘no’ to redistricting initiatives, I stood with you and voted ‘no.’”

·       House 21 – Rep. Will Jobe explicitly calls himself a conservative Democrat. In his FAQ… “Are you a Republican or a Democrat? I am a Truman (conservative) Democrat.”

·       House 94 – Democrat Cathy Summers’ ad hits Mary Ellen Murphy.  (See it here). Eight years of Jim Murphy, now it's his wife's turn. Well, that's convenient. Here's what they think of us. We voted for sick leave. They took it away eight days later. We voted for women's rights. They've called for a do-over. We vote. They overrule us every time. They were never working for us. Cutting taxes for the rich at our expense. Gutting public school funding. The Murphys. Same family, same donors, same contempt for us. I'm Cathy Summers, and I'm running to earn this seat, not inherit it.

·       House 96 – Democrat Matt Vitale’s ad (see it here) focuses on the Republican legislature’s unpopular actions: Brad Christ went to Jefferson City three years ago. He took a title. He took a committee seat. And every time working people won something at the ballot box, he took that, too. Sick leave. He repealed it 8 days later. Reproductive rights. Brad lost, so he's demanding a do-over. And when Trump wants to rig our maps, Brad does his bidding, not ours. I'm Matt Vitale, a public school dad who spent my career fighting for the underdog. I want to go to Jefferson City to fight for you.

·       House 100 – Rep. Phil Oehlerking sounds almost pro-choice on his website: I also believe that in most cases, family planning is an issues best left to the individual and not the government.

·       House 110 – Democrat Claire Heinrich attacks Republican Niles Stephens over late taxes.  (This is the Justin Sparks seat.  I have seen it on some target lists, though it’s not on mine).  See the hit here.  Similar attacks are made on Stephens on a website, NilesforMissouri, which claims to be produced by the “Missouri Candidate Transparency Project.”  There is no MEC committee or SOS filing for such an entity.

·       House 133 – Democrat Katelyn Zach weighed in on the Flock camera debate in Springfield. Her criticism centered on public participation; it doesn’t establish blanket opposition to the cameras.  On Facebook: Last night, Springfield City Council had an opportunity to hear directly from residents who came prepared to speak about the city’s use of automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras. Instead, Council voted 5–3 to send the resolution to committee before the scheduled public hearing could take place, meaning the residents who showed up to make their voices heard were not given that opportunity. Whatever your position on ALPR cameras, Springfield residents deserve transparency from their government. Public participation shouldn’t be something we set aside when the conversation gets difficult...

Dunn Passes

Sharon Dunn, the longtime office manager of Steven R. Carroll & Associates, passed away unexpectedly last weekend. Dunn worked for former Senator and Governor Roger Wilson from 1985-1992 and worked as a Legislative Assistant for various public officials in both the House and Senate from 1979 until 2002, joining Steven R. Carroll & Associates in 2006.
