MOScout Daily Update: MO "Red Zone" COVID State - Looking at FB Ads - Liberty Alliance Contra MedEx - News Ads and more...

MO’s COVID Situation

Team Parson is increasingly finding itself in a situation fraught with political danger.

The coronavirus is spreading more rapidly now across the state.

·         The latest federal report looking at the status of states now places Missouri in the so-called “red zone.”  See it here.

·         The state reported 1,773 new cases yesterday, a new high.

·         Testing remains a mess.  Post-Dispatch reports of folks waiting having to wait 5 to 7 days for results.

·         We started the month with 1,000 deaths from COVID, and we’ll finishing probably around 1,250.

Meanwhile the governor’s new pivot could leave him looking detached and out-of-touch with the crisis.

·         Only holding one press briefing this week.

·         Traveling the state talking about violent crime and school reopening.

·         Often not following his own advice regarding social distancing and mask wearing.

Looking At Facebook Ads

A scan through the Facebook Ad Library lets you see what message candidates are pushing right now.

In the governor’s race, most of Governor Mike Parson’s ads involve the 2nd Amendment and “law and order.”

·         Gov. Parson: “I will never abandon the Second Amendment. But the liberal mob has set their target on me and my campaign, and I need your help NOW”

·         Not only are the liberal mobs targeting the police, but they’re after Governor Parson for being a voice for blue lives.

Meanwhile Auditor Nicole Galloway’s highlight that the race is winnable.

·         [STATISTICAL DEAD HEAT] We are less than four months away from Election Day, and Mike Parson is only leading Nicole by two-points. We NEED to close the gap, so please donate $5 or anything you can to help us take the lead end up victorious this November!

·         We just wrapped up a historic fundraising quarter, out-raising Governor Mike Parson by more than double! Plus, election forecasters just upgraded Nicole's chances of winning because this race is in a statistical dead heat.

Here’s a look at the Republican Senate primary messages.

Senate 3: Kent Scism links to TV ad hitting Joshua Barrett, while Barrett seems to be concentrating his fire on Rep. Elaine Gannon.  And Gannon’s ads are all positive at this point.  A couple about MRL and 2nd Amendment.

Senate 25: Several of Jeff Shawan’s active ads attack Eddy Justice, with none hitting Jason Bean.  Justice’s links to his recent TV ad which attacks both Shawan and Bean.  And Bean’s ads are positive focusing on farming roots and endorsements.

Senate 27: Rep. Kathy Swan’s ad features an endorsement from a local official, while Rep. Holly Rehder has two ads in rotation. One attacking Swan, and another promoting a video of her refuting attacks from Swan.

Senate 29: Both Mike Moon and David Cole ads insist they are the “most” conservative pro-life, pro-gun candidate in the race.

Senate 31: Jack Bondon’s ads are all over the place.  One links to an TV ad attack on “Slackin’ Rick Brattin,” one shows the McCloskeys and mentions his support of the Castle Doctrine, another touts his pro-life credentials…  meanwhile Rick Brattin hits Bondon for supporting a higher gas tax.

Senate 33: Robert Ross has three ads active right now.  One is a link to a positive video, another to a negative attack on Karla Eslinger, and a third plays on his support for Donald Trump.

It looks like neither Eslinger nor Van Kelly are not utilizing FB ads.

New Ads

·         In the St. Louis County Executive race, Assessor Jake Zimmerman reiterates his campaign themes in what I think is his best ad this cycle.  See it here.

·         The pro-MedEx campaign’s latest ad (see it here) sticks with their main arguments: bringing tax dollars back to Missouri, and saving rural hospitals.

Liberty Alliance Gives to NO on 2 Campaign

In the large contributions (below) Liberty Alliance’s parent non-profit Cornerstone 1791 gave about a quarter of a million dollars worth of in-kind contributions to the anti-MedEx campaign committee, No on 2 in August.
