MOScout Daily Update: Kazda to BUD - Hankinson to Chamber - O’Laughlin Empties PAC - Termed Legislators Eye Lobbying and more…
Quick Friday update…
Kazda to BUD
Adam Kazda tells colleagues that he’s headed to AB….
I am excited to share that I’ve accepted a new role as the Director of State Government Affairs for Anheuser-Busch!
During my six years at Greater St. Louis, Inc./St. Louis Regional Chamber, I’ve partnered with a lot of great people. I want to thank each of you for helping me along the way. Hopefully, I’ve helped you in your work.
My new role is still based in St. Louis, so I will see many of you on a regular basis – just in a different capacity! I look forward to continuing our partnership and friendship.
I would be remiss if I did not thank Ted Powers, who is retiring from AB at the end of the year. Ted is a giant in the government affairs space. I have big shoes to fill. I am looking forward to the challenge. I wish him a wonderful retirement – with plenty of Budweiser!
My last day at GSL will be November 8. I start at AB on November 12. Please be on the lookout for an email once I get settled. My cell will remain the same…
And
In the lobbyist registrations (below) Jared Hankinson is now repping the Missouri Chamber. Hankinson comes from the governor’s office where he’s been Deputy Policy and Legislative Director.
Money Watch
Lots of big checks continue to fly into various committees. A few worth noting today…
· MSCC, the Republican senators’ campaign committee added about half a million to their bank account. Most of it was from Sen. Cindy O’Laughlin’s PAC. $425,309, which by my reckoning means that she gave close to every last penny that she had in that PAC. We’ll see on the 8-Day Reports if that’s true, or very close to true.
· Missourians for Constitutional Freedom, the campaign committee trying to pass Amendment 3, scored another $1+ million. It’ll be interesting to see the 30-Day After Reports, but I’d estimate that the proponents for A will have outraised the opponents maybe 50:1.
eMailbag on Senate 15
One Republican reader dismisses Pereles’ mayoral endorsements: I’m a resident in the 15th… The Republican mayor ad will be seen by many as a joke. None of those mayors have any sort of conservative reputation or involvement with local Republican groups. In fact, Republicans have run candidates against at least one of them. Most actual Republicans in the 15th will likely laugh at those “Republican” endorsements or ask who those guys are.
Termed Legislators Eye Lobbying
One lobbyist tells me they’re already feeling the impact from the court ruling tossing the CLEANER provision for a two-year lobbying ban for legislators. With the “cooling off” period null and void, termed legislators are inquiring if there might be opportunities to stay in the hallway after their time-of-service ends.
We’ll see how many make the leap. There are, after all, two sides to every market. Even with greater folks offering to supply lobbying services, the demand for those services hasn’t changed.
· And my personal wish list for ethics reform would require every elected official to disclose any conversations about prospective jobs. A job is a thing of value.
