MOScout Daily Update: More A3 $$$ - GOP Bottleneck Coming? - Kunce Backs Trump on IVF - Chiefs Vote Ahead? and more…
Quick Friday update….
Bottleneck on GOP Political Ladder?
The consensus among the political class is that we’re going to see another Republican sweep in the statewide races. This is based on the past couple of cycle in which the top of the ticket has won by double digits. Democrats last statewide victory was in 2018 when Nicole Galloway beat Saundra McDowell. There’s no McDowellesque candidate on the ballot this year.
Assuming this occurs, it will create a ceiling on all the Republican legislators who have traditionally set their sights on statewide office.
This year 6 Republican state senators and 3 Republican state representatives ran for statewide office.
If Republican occupy all the statewide seats – unless folks start primarying incumbents – every state senator who’s termed out in the next six years and wants to continue their political careers will be boxed out from higher office. They’ll be looking at county commissions or appointments.
· The hope is that this will be good for governing, and functional Senate because there will be less incentive to blow things up for political gain.
And
Looking out, under this scenario, we’ll have five statewide Republicans eying and elbowing each other for the next eight years as they jockey for position to succeed Governor Kehoe in 2032.
Kunce Backs Trump Position on IVF
Democrat Lucas Kunce announced yesterday he backed Donald Trump’s promise for the government to pay for IVF treatments.
Lt. Col. Lucas Kunce (USMCR, 13 years active duty) announced that in addition to his support for the Right To IVF Act, Kunce also supports former president Donald Trump’s zero-cost IVF proposal for “all Americans that need it” and would work to enact both proposals if elected to the U.S. Senate.
· It shows the extent to which reproductive policies are suddenly in flux. Trump has been characteristically inconsistent. And Democrats are happy to use Trump to pressure other Republicans to choose between the Party’s rigid pro-life bloc and its wider coalition of voters.
More A3 $$$
The huge checks keep coming to support the pro-choice ballot question. Today in the large contributions is a $750,000 check from Global Impact Social Welfare Fund. This brings the amount raised by the campaign since the start of August to over $9.3 million.
· Also in the large contributions, folks are sending money to Senate primary winners. Both Reps. Patty Lewis and Adam Schnelting saw their PACs take in checks.
Another Chiefs Vote Coming?
Speaker-elect Jon Patterson tell KMBC that he sees another vote coming to Jackson County to support the Kansas City Chiefs as they mull their future stadium site. Read it here.
[JP] met with Royals owner John Sherman and Chiefs president Mark Donovan. After those conversations, he believes there will be another public vote, and he thinks it is much more likely to pass.
· "I think with Kansas having their offer, there's a lot more urgency to it now," Patterson said. "And anything that we do cannot happen without Jackson County. So I think you'll see another vote. And I think Jackson County will be there."
