MOScout Daily Update: Jones’ TV Ad - Bailey’s A3 PAC - HRCC’s Hits on Dems - Nurrenbern Shakes Fist at SBOE - Bunten to Cigna and more…

Senate 34: Jones Starts TV

Rep. Mike Jones, running in Senate 34, has started TV.  See the ad here.  It mentions property taxes four times!

Mike Jones was just your average dad, Air Force veteran, and small business owner.  Then he got his property tax bill and Mike decided it was time for a change.  Times are hard so Jones is running for state senate to cut property taxes and bring down the cost of living. Mike Jones is running to serve Missouri just like he served our country. “Property taxes are way too high.  Cutting them will be my top priority.” Ticked off about your property taxes? Vote Mike Jones for state Senate.

What It Means

Republicans are shoring up this seat which everyone assumed was safe at the beginning of the cycle.

HRCC Throws Punches

Citizens for a Better Government, a committee of the House Republican Campaign Committee, is launching some hard-hitting ads as it tries to defend their supermajority…

·       House 12 - “Deadbeat Tracey Steele can’t run his own life. Why would we let him run ours?” as an ad flashes an allegation involving county property taxes.

·       House 101 – “Paul Lentz lives on his family’s trust, but he hasn’t earned ours.”

·       House 106 - “Prices are going through the roof, and Jewel Kelly’s plan will have them crashing down on you!”

·       House 133 – “Jefferson City needs courage. Katelyn Zach doesn’t have it.”

Vote Yes on Amendment 3 Formed

A new campaign committee was formed to help pass Amendment 3. See the filing for Vote Yes on Amendment 3 here. Former Attorney General Andrew Bailey is the treasurer.

It joins the main campaign vehicle, Her Health, Her Future PAC.  Claudia Kehoe is the treasurer of that committee.

·       We’ll see how much of Bailey’s old PAC, Liberty and Justice PAC, he contributes to this campaign. Liberty and Justice PAC has $555,000 cash on-hand.

No on Prop A Ad

Here’s the ad from no on Prop A. I saw this one on TV last night while I was watching the Brewers game.  This is the referendum vote on the redistricting map.  It features Kathy Dusenbury…

They say all politics is local. As a former mayor of Parkville, I can tell you they’re right. That’s why I’m so upset about Proposition A.  Prop A is a bunch of DC politicians rigging up congressional maps in Missouri. Politicians shouldn’t pick their voters.  That’s a power grab. And no matter what party’s in control, it’s wrong. I’m a lifelong conservative and registered Republican, and I’m voting no on Proposition A.

Beers & Budget: Nurrenbern Speaks

Dropping this morning is the latest episode of Andy Foley and Erin Schrimpf’s Beers & Budget.

They interview Sen. Maggie Nurrenbern, who says: “The longer that I’ve been part of this [budget] process, I become more and more fiscally conservative.”

The episode was recorded during Veto Session when the State Board of Education announced it had decided not to ask for any increase in the foundation formula.

Nurrenbern was clearly outraged that the SBOE wouldn’t be trying to advocate as hard as possible for education funding.  “Erin, I'm going to make this as simple as I possibly can. Today, we heard the State Board of Education say that they are proposing that we do not meet the statutory requirement to fund education for our kids… if we're not investing in our kids, I don't know what the hell we are doing as lawmakers.”

Hanaway Fundy

Sen. David Gregory and Joe Patterson (MFR PAC) reportedly raised about $50,000 for Attorney General Catherine Hanaway at a recent fundraiser at Gregory’s home.

The 60-ish attendees were not the usual folks. Many were young donors representing businesses and operators in Missouri’s regulated cannabis industry. Several praised Hanaway’s aggressive enforcement efforts against illegal intoxicating hemp products, an issue of particular importance to the state’s licensed marijuana businesses.

Bunten to Cigna

The Cigna Group has tapped Missouri native Brian Bunten to serve as vice president and head of state government affairs, where he will direct state government affairs strategy nationwide.

·       Bunten joins The Cigna Group after nearly 10 years in leadership positions with UnitedHealth Group. He previously served as general counsel for the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representing Missouri employers on major legislative and liability issues, and earlier served as general counsel to former Missouri Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder.

Congratulations
