The economic fallout of mass shootings.  Using a sample of 69 mass shooting incidents and a stacked difference-in-differences empirical design, we find that mass shootings weaken local economic conditions by reducing entrepreneurship, contracting local credit markets, and decreasing business activity. We identify household migration as an important mechanism. Following a mass shooting, affected counties experience higher net out-migration, driven primarily by increased house-hold outflows. The migration response is stronger for more severe and highly media covered incidents
