MOScout Daily Update: Ben Brown MMA Ad - MOFed Hits Roorda, Tate - Greitens in Teens in St. Chuck? - Winton to Rep STL County - Hamm Hearts Kunce and more....

First in MOScout: Ben Brown Starts “Fighter” Ad

In Senate 26, Ben Brown is on the air this morning – cable TV buy – with an ad referencing his experience as a mixed martial arts fighter.  See it here.

I’ve faced down violent opponents in a cage… and defeated liberal tyrants in the courts. Now, I’m ready to fight for our families and our freedoms in the State Senate.

MOFed for Children Ads

Missouri Federation for Children PAC’s ads show the senate districts they’re targeting.

In Senate 10, they’re pro-Travis FitzwaterSee the ad here. “The only candidate endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police.”

In Senate 22, they’re anti-Jeff RoordaSee the ad here“If it walks like a Democrat, talks like a Democrat, acts like a Democrat… guess what?”

In Senate 26, they’re anti-Nate Tate. See the ad here. “Missed many votes as a state legislator, but one vote he didn’t miss was to increase our state gas tax.”

Winton Policy Group Wins STL County Contract

St. Louis County Executive Sam Page announced that Winton Policy Group was chosen to be the County’s new lobbyist.

The proposed contract is for a one—year term commencing upon contract execution, with the option to renew for up to four additional one—year terms upon mutual agreement of the parties. The cost of the proposed contract with Winton would be for an amount not to exceed $12,000 per month, for a maximum not to exceed amount of$l44,000 per year… Under the terms of the contract, Winton will represent the County as lobbyists to address matters in which the County needs professional assistance before the Missouri state legislature, individual state legislators, the Governor, and other state agencies throughout the legislative session

MOChamber Backs Incumbents

The Missouri Chamber’s Political Institute is mostly backing incumbent senators – according to a recent filing with the Missouri Ethics Commission.

The only non-incumbent state senator on their list: Rep. Rusty Black in Senate 12.

Another Regional Poll Shows Schmitt Up, Greitens Fading

There continues to be indications that Eric Greitens is fading.  Here’s another poll from a Senate 2 survey (July 12-14 conducted by Remington, with a sample size of 413, margin of error +/-5%.)

Eric Schmitt: 34%

Eric Greitens: 19%

Vicky Hartzler: 11%

Billy Long: 2%

Dave Schatz: 3%

Mark McCloskey: 6%

Someone else: 8%

Undecided: 17%

Keathley Hits Brunner

One MOScouter tells me, “I wouldn’t write-off Ben Keathley in that Chesterfield race [Republican primary House 101, old Greir district] against John Brunner. Ben has worked the district and has the advantage on the ground. While Brunner certainly has some big names on his side, I don’t think he did much outreach to folks that actually reside in the district.”

Here’s the latest mail piece in that race.  It’s a hit on Brunner for not being a resident of the district and “he thinks he can buy your district.”

Senate Special Election Could Be Strange

One MOScouter digs into the legalese behind special elections after redistricting and says a race to replace Sen. Rick Brattin – if he wins CD-4 – will be conducted in the old Senate 31, not the newly drawn 31.

The relevant statutes are Sections 21.120 and 21.130.  If you’re like me you’ll need to read them like eight times slowly….

More on Potential Gubby Appts

Chatter continues about the possibility that Governor Mike Parson will have a chance to appoint more statewide officeholders.  More reaction…

·       One reader thinks that those handicapping a potential treasurer appointment shouldn’t “count out Kalena Bruce… From his area, woman, has his support in her race, Farm Bureau endorsed, and a CPA…”

·       And another thinks that the governor will be very thoughtful when it comes an AG pick.  It’s a serious matter.  That office, more than most appointments, requires a capable leader. They think Kurt Schaefer, as a former prosecutor, former state senator, and having worked on the private side, brings a range of experiences which could be attractive to Parson.

Kunce Adds Star Power…

Mad Men star, and Missouri native Jon Hamm is the special guest of a virtual fundraiser for Democrat Lucas KunceSee it here.

Eli Decides Against Embedding

Former Missouri reporter, now with Morning Consult, Eli Yokley was in the jury pool for the Steve Bannon trial. He was not chosen after saying he’d be uncomfortable having spoken to Bannon before s a source, and having to write about him in the future.  See it here.
