  • “In 1982 the USDA killed 86 feral hogs” in Texas, says Mike Bodenchuk, a San Antonio–based wildlife biologist. “Thirty years later we’re killing 30,000. We look at other states—Kansas, Missouri—and say, ‘You guys are where we were 30 years ago. You don’t wanna be where we are today.’ ”

Sen. Cindy O’Laughlin was appointed the Chair of the Senate Education Committee.  She replaces Sen. Gary Romine who was appointed to the Tax Commission.

This was rumored, and to reiterate the general view on it…

·         It’s a positive for the school reformers.

·         O’Laughlin is in favor of chart school expansion, and generally more favorable on their issues.

American Viewpoints: Parson In Strong Position

American Viewpoints, in a poll commissioned by the pro-Mike Parson PAC Uniting Missouri, found that the incumbent governor is in a strong position against Democrat Nicole Galloway, and also against potential Republican primary challengers. 

·         The Governor’s job approval rating is strong as well, with 60% of voters approving of the job he is doing and 26% disapproving.

314 Forward was formed.  According to the paperwork filed, the PAC’s purpose is to support St. Louis City Treasurer Tishaura Jones

Jones is widely expected to announce that she’s running for St. Louis City mayor.  That election is in the spring of 2021.  Jones narrowly lost to Mayor Lyda Krewson in 2017.

The Missouri Senate Campaign Committee recorded another large contribution today.  This is the Republican Senate Caucus’ main vehicle to protect their majority. 

The steady stream of checks puts it in good shape.  MSCC finished the January quarter with about $560K on-hand.  Given these recent contributions, the committee is probably near $700K cash on-hand.

Initiative petitions are the topic of the day.  The Senate Local Government Committee will hear two proposals from Sen. David Sater

·         SB 522 throws out signatures if a court changes the ballot title, effectively killing the IP for that cycle. 

·         SJR 31- which would require voter approval – significantly increases the number of signatures necessary to put a constitutional change on the ballot.
