Rehder’s PDMP Set for Senate Hearing

Rep. Holly Rehder’s PDMP bill (HB 1693) will get a Senate hearing today.  It will be heard in the Judiciary Committee (1:30PM).  Chairman Tony Luetkemeyer filed a Senate version of a PDMP, so this should be a hospitable environment for the bill.

Greitens Runs Ad on FB: “Fully Exonerated”

Eric Greitens seems eager as ever to spend money telling folks what a great guy he is.

KCStar’s Jason Hancock noticed that he’s running Facebook ads touting his total exoneration in the $178K fine he received from the Missouri Ethics Commission.

Greitens Fined

The Missouri Ethics Commission fined former governor Eric Greitens a whopping $178,000.

Greitens issued a statement – widely lampooned on social media – in which he declared he was “fully exonerated.”

• “In 1982 the USDA killed 86 feral hogs” in Texas, says Mike Bodenchuk, a San Antonio–based wildlife biologist. “Thirty years later we’re killing 30,000. We look at other states—Kansas, Missouri—and say, ‘You guys are where we were 30 years ago. You don’t wanna be where we are today.’ ”

O’Laughlin Gets Education Chair

Sen. Cindy O’Laughlin was appointed the Chair of the Senate Education Committee.  She replaces Sen. Gary Romine who was appointed to the Tax Commission.

This was rumored, and to reiterate the general view on it…

·         It’s a positive for the school reformers.

·         O’Laughlin is in favor of chart school expansion, and generally more favorable on their issues.

Chiefs Parade

The Superbowl champs will parade through Kansas City.  In a nod to KC legislators who are attending the parade, the legislature will have a quiet day.

The House is only holding a technical session, and the Senate is not expected to take up any “big” issues.

MO Department of Defense?

Rep. Adam Schnelting is proposing a constitutional amendment to add a Missouri Department of Defense.  See it here.

There shall be established a department of defense in charge of the adjutant general appointed by the governor, by and with the advice and consent of the senate, charged with providing the state militia and other defense and security mechanisms as may be required…

Cole Assembles Team

In Senate 29, David Cole is assembling his team.  He’s in a primary with Rep. Mike Moon.

Miles Ross is Cole’s general consultant.  Ross is a veteran of southwest Missouri politics.  In fact, he’s been involved in the Senate 29 Republican races since Jack Goodman won over a dozen years ago.

HB 2033 Unconstitutional?

Polsinelli penned a letter outlining the “legal deficiencies in proposed Missouri legislation to strip condemnation authority from the Grain Belt Express Transmission Project.” 

The bottom-line: “[T]he effect of the Bills would be to deprive Grain Belt of vital rights protected under the Missouri Constitution.”
