Map Mess, Episode 48…

The House once again rejected the Senate’s version of the congressional map and asked (again) for a conference committee.

No Map Deal

The Senate refused the House’s offer of conferencing on the congressional redistricting map, continuing a stand-off.

To Conference or Not To Conference?

The House voted to reject the Senate’s version of the congressional redistricting map and instead go to conference to seek a compromise. It was a bipartisan vote, passing 115-19.

Candidate Filing

Today is the final day of candidate filing – unless a courts order candidate filing to reopen given that potential candidates don’t have a congressional map to know who they’d be running to represent.

Yesterday we saw a slew of candidate filings.

The end is in sight for the long and winding road to new congressional maps.

Sunrise in the Senate

The Senate is “at ease,” as they have been for about the last five hours or so. That means the session is still technically going on, but there’s nothing happening on the floor as senators try to work out a knotty problem. In this case, they are once again wrestling with the congressional map.

Senate Perfects Sexual Assault Bill

The Senate perfected Sen. Holly Thompson Rehder’s SB 775 after adding compromise language from Sen. Rick Brattin on preventing sexually explicit books in schools.

Greitens Ex-Wife Alleges Abuse

News broke yesterday that Eric Greitens’ ex-wife, in a court filing related to a custody battle over their children, recounted his abusive behavior.

Wieland to Take On Gannon

Termed Sen. Paul Wieland is running for Jefferson County Executive. Wieland has originally filed for the County Collector position, but he withdrew and switched to County Executive race.

Senate 4: Behind the Scene Jockeying

Names mentioned as potential candidates: incumbent Sen. Karla May (obviously), former Sen. Jake Hummel, and Reps. Donna Baringer, Steve Butz and Peter Merideth.

Fitz’ End of Quarter BOOM

State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick has a huge event planned to close out the quarter at the end of the month. It’s at the home of GOP donor Gary Grewe, and features both Governor Mike Parson and Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe.

New State Senate Maps

The judicial commission released its “tentative senate redistricting plan” yesterday. It will be formally filed with the secretary of state’s office today and become the new state senate map. There’s a lot to digest here…

Dems Sue on Redistricting Impasse

A lawsuit was filed Friday declaring that “because the General Assembly and Governor have failed to enact a new congressional plan and the filing period is now open, this Court should adopt its own constitutional redistricting plan sufficiently in advance of the primary election that protects the rights of Missourians.”

Trump Cameos At Schmitt Fundy

Not an endorsement, one source says, but still a big night for Attorney General Eric Schmitt, holding a fundraiser at Mar-A-Lago. Former President Donald Trump dropped by and addressed the audience.

GOP Old Guard For Schatz?

Are the old guard Republicans beginning to push for Sen. Dave Schatz in the US Senate race? On the heels of this week’s news that KC GOP go-to Warren Erdman is leaning in for Schatz, yesterday the Schatz campaign sent a “save the date” for a March 31 event in St. Louis headlined by Governor Mike Parson.
